Drake - Marvin's Room (prod. 40)

New Drizzy! That R n B feel he knows for. I did think that Take Care was going to be more of a rap album, so  I wonder how deep the album will be at this point. I like it though cause it's just so real...for my life anyway. LoL. Single out next month and album Oct. 24th UPDATE: Listen to I Get Lonely Too then Marvin's Room, it's more awesome that way

Special Report: DCU REBOOT!

As you all know, DC Comics is rebooting 52 books next month with all new #1s, new creative teams, new stories, new costumes, new books, new teams, and just a different DC all over as far this geek can see. Update: I guess this is what DC had to do. They've tried to fix continuity for, like, 20 years now. I wonder what they will keep and give the axe to? I'm going to go through some (a lot) of these changes along with my opinion and some of the new artwork for characters. Some of this will be intriguing, some not so much.

DCU BLOG
Let's start off this road with some news concerning the Batman Universe. Not a lot of change here with the writers and artist, but the books stemming from the reboot. Batman & Robin will continue on, with Bruce and his son Damian. The writing is as it is now with Tomasi and Gleason. So now you ask yourself "what about Dick Grayson?" Well, he's still around, but he's coming back as Nightwing in his own book.

Tim Drake is still Red Robin (iThink). The info on the Red Robin book is still unknown officially, but I think it's done. He still appears with the Titans, which you will read about a little later.
More big news is the largely controversial move to make Barbara Gordon as Batgirl and leaving her persona as Oracle. I, for one, don't like it. I wasn't around when she was Batgirl in continuity, but I feel she has done more as Oracle than her as Batgirl ever will and so does The Nerdy Bird. I mean, Oracle was very import in the Batman information network and she's really good at it. I don't know what she can offer as Batgirl that ol' Oracle couldn't do, but whatever. So where does that leave Stephanie Brown? Well, I couldn't tell you. It's not like their going to write her out of continuity though.
DCU Blog
The Batman titles (including Detective Comics) will remain the same, with a minor change. As follows, the list of Titles and writers and artist:
  • Tony Daniel on  Detective Comics as Writer and Artist
  • Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo on Batman
  • David Finch as Writer and Artist/Jay Fabok on Batman: The Dark Knight
  • Peter J. Tomasi as Writer on Batman & Robin with Gleason on pencils
  • J.H. Williams III, Haden Blackman and Amy Reeder begins in BATWOMAN #1.
Also, The Red Hood and The Outlaws looks really cool too. The Outlaws being Starfire and Arsenal.
Okay, now for the rest of the universe. LoL

Ivan Ries and Joe Prado
The Green Lantern camp isn't changing much at all. Some new costumes maybe, but that's it. Geoff, Tomasi, and Bedard still at the helm of the main Green Lantern Titles. But Peter Milligan will be writing the new Red Lantern series. Sounds promising. I don't know how a ongoing title will work for it though. Johns will also be writing the highly anticipated return of Aquaman

The news about the Justice League has been beaten to death and they pretty much know the turn out of that! Geoff Johns, Jim Lee & Scott Williams means you buy it. No Martian Manhunter though.

What I'm looking forward to is the new Teen Titans. I mean, just look at this cover. Freaking awesome. Only thing now is that I have to read about the people who aren't Red Robin, Superboy, and Kid Flash in this pic. And about the Red Robin and Kid Flash - I thought Red Robin was going to be leader of the Outsiders, as indicated in the Batman: Incorperated #6 and I think something to change the hero communities view on The Flash family after the events in Flashpoint. From what I've read, the description of the new series make it seem like no one know's who Kid Flash is or what he's all about. [seems cool]. This series will be helmed by Scott Lobdell and artists Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund.

So with the Brightest Day event coming to a close, one of the stories to come out of that is Firestorm and. And guess what? The Firestorm matrix is split into 2 parts.  Jason Rusch and Ronnie Raymond are separated. The art looks cool, but who knows anything about Ethan Van Sciver's writing ability? Gail Simone co-writes it too, but I'm still no too sure on this.

Another big character that survived Brightest Day is The Savage Hawkman, and he's getting a whole new series of his own. Tony Daniel is the scribe for his and I would like this to work out. I really like Daniels writing and with Phillip Tan on the pencils, the book should turn out beautiful.

And to round out all the artist turned writers for his post, is Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato. Johns is officially gone and the artist of the recently re-numbered series takes on co-writing and art duties The Flash. And that isn't the most shocking new of the day.

The most shocking news is that Brian Azzarello is going to take on the responsibility of Wonder Woman. Couldn't believe it. That was very unexpected. I'm actually curious to see how he can approach this character without alienating longtime fans of the character and keep the Princesses roots intact.

And speaking of woman in comics, Duane Swierczynski will be writing Birds Of Prey! Love that guys work.

Now, for the bad news. Some series didn't make the cut. My beloved Xombi didn't make the cut. It just started and now it's getting gutted. But if you still need your Rozum fix STATIC SHOCK will be his new title in the reboot!

Gerald Walker - Shackles

The record is being presented by T.I's Grand Hustle imprint and produced by J. LBS (Yelawolf, Pac Div, Jhene Aiko, H.O.P.E. and many more!) so I had to give it a listen. And who knew that it would be awesome. He has a project coming out called The Other Half Of Letting Go, so I'm anticipating that now too! Enjoy

The-Dream - Body Work/F*** My Brains Out!

I thought he was retiring, but I guess not. The Singer/Songwriter comes out the woodwork to serve us some of that Prince-inspired, rough, sex-driven music we all know him for. The home for these records is from the forth installment of his LOVE series L. IV: Diary Of a Madman due out in the fall. Oh, and catch the actual album art at the bottom!

Stalley - Summer In America

Stalley giving us some summertime ride music. RIP Gil Scott-Heron
Art by Palmer Hayden 'Midsummer Night In Harlem' 1938

The passing of Gil Scott-Heron on May 27, 2011 prompts reflection. His fusion of blues, jazz and soul combined with clear, concise social commentary is at the core of hip-hop’s roots. The longevity of his career too proves something often ignored – our voices stand as long as we wish to allow....

Weekly Comics Report - June 5 2011

Every week is some new comics and every week I'll have some reviews on some choice comics. I won't get to all of them, but I'll choose some comics I looked forward to and give my verdict. Also, some of them may be late - I may have missed a week on a comic maybe. either way, enjoy

Flashpoint #2
Writer: Geoff Johns
Art: Andy Kubert, Sandra Hope,
Alex Sinclair
DC COMICS $3.99 (holding the line? smh)

So it's part two in this event and I have to say while it's good, It's doing a lot with incorporating other  story lines from the new world of Flashpoint into the main book - they should be left in the tie-in book. There are a lot of pages dedicated to this and it should be more focused on Barry, at least THE FLASH (any of them even though I'm not getting how ZOOM is doing any of this if Barry isn't a speedster...remains to be seen). Then comes Thomas Wayne as Batman, I love it...well, the idea. I do feel like his eagerness to help Barry so quickly after he mentions Bruce and Barry's new found knowledge so quickly is a cause for concern, but I think Johns can clean that up nicely. And speaking of nice - the Kubert art. It's always spectacular. The cover alone is great, although he makes Barry look like a really young guy. I know the speed force keeps them young but man! I'm going to finish the series and some choice tie-ins though, can't back out now before the big reboot. And knowing Johns, this is going to be relevant to DC for a long time.

X-Men #12
Writer: Christopher Yost
Art: (NOW) Paco Medina (THEN) Dalibor Talajic
Marvel Comics $3.99

Now this is just a good story. I'm really glad that Yost is back with the X-Universe (I'd like to Craig Kyle with him on something soon too). This leaves off from the Giant Size X-men that was released a few weeks ago. This week we get a some more information about the Evolutionaries. Things like how long they have really been around and what they are, but not much. Keeps you wanting more. The whole chapter this week is full of tension, when it breaks everything goes out of control and Cyclops is trying to keep everything together for the sake of getting past this, but the Evolutionaries have a big problem with Cyclops role the past few years and plan to take him out for it. What's also really interesting is Archangel. Outside of X-Force you don't see him at all, you just see Warren, so I'm eager to see what's his role in this arc. Without being super nitpickey, my only criticism is when Talahjic draws Angel. I just fel he draws his wings too small.
9/10

Xombi
Writer: John Rozum
Art: Frazer Irving
DC Comics $2.99

Rozum is really good at making David a hero. The not not quiting in front of impossible odds deal does not fall short with him and is emphasized throughout the narrative. He's up againsted in incarnate of rage and he's not stopping, while the Maranatha is beating him to a pulp. Coupled with the great art from Irving, I believe it's a great series with a lot to offer for DC. I wonder if this is one of the titles in the reboot...I mean it just started. Anyway, it's a great read

S.H.I.E.L.D. vol. 2: The Beginning of The End
Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Art: Dustin Weaver and Sonia Oback (colors)
Marvel $3.99

The Forever Man aka Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarrotti Simoni is the focus of this story. His part he's played in young Leonid's life is revealed as well as his history with S.H.I.E.L.D. and it seems to me that he's the most important character so far. Things are put into place because of him and the way it's written, now that I think about it, means that he could be a bad guy, or rather on a side of his own. He's a man a being that is facilitating everything and is in there to council Leonid. Waiting to see how he handles it will be fun to read. What's weird is Leonid's mother - a gross looking alien, and Newton had him and he still looked human, but with powers. (hmmm..) Hickman didn't linger on that too long and that made way for decisions that impacted the present war in the book. Also, it's great for new readers since it gives a brief description of some the great minds of history as related to the story in the back, I liked that a lot.
